 "@ Mary Fairy" 2009-03-14

I have no idea what feeder "Mary Fairy" is talking about; there are no springs on this feeder. As far as the rain, I've had no problems with that; I've never seen water in the seeds, and there have been plenty of rain storms over the years I've used this feeder.

The squirrels can push the top off, but you can use a small bungie cord or other devise to lock it down. It's not a perfect solution, but over the years I've tried many different designs; this is the only one that keeps the squirrels reasonably under control.

 "Really Squirrel Proof Feeder" 2009-01-20
By Pennsylvania Nature Lover (Pittsburgh)
I've had one of these feeders for about 6 months. The squirrels absolutely cannot get into the feeder through the cage, but the woodpeckers, titmouses, chickadees, finches, etc. can eat from it. A squirrel did figure out how to push the top up and ate the seed out of the top compartment, and chewed on the tube, but we just put a bunji cord over the top and the squirrels can't get in anymore (it's fun to watch them try for a few minutes and then give up).

All of the parts are replaceable if your supplier carries them, so I paid $4 to replace the chewed tube and it's good as new. I love the way the three compartments come apart...I find it very easy to clean, much better than solid tubes with perches through them, and I don't have much trouble with seed getting wet (and we had a lot of rain this Fall). You just have to wait until it's pretty empty to pull it apart and clean it, and I just dump the last bit of seed into my tray feeder when I dismantle it to clean it. I can clean it using a paper towel in a couple of minutes on the deck before I refill it. This is the best feeder I've ever owned. I'm feeding the birds, not the squirrels.

"Hard to clean, chewed up in one week." 2008-12-27
By Mary T. Skarbell (wyndmoor pa)
It took the squirrels about a week to chew the top spring but it did not destroy it right away. This is one of the hardest feeder I've had to clean.Rain gets in easy and rotts the seeds on bottom.

"Great deal on a feeder" 2008-09-26
By ubet (IL United States)
Picture by customer is the correct one. This is a nice metal/plastic feeder. The multiple level gives this feeder interest. And I've seen this feeder at Lowe's (their brand name) and at Target (Perky Pet) for $24-28.
