I've never had an oriole feeder before. When I purchased this one and hung it up, it tipped to the side and leaked. So I modified the end of a half-inch diameter pole that I already had and mounted the feeder onto the pole. That took care of the tilting problem. Then I had ants crawl up the pole and fill the feeder. So I modified a hanging ant guard into a pole-mounted ant guard. That took care of the ants. Then, LO AND BEHOLD, I had an oriole come and feed.........off of my HUMMINGBIRD feeder. A couple of times he sat on this oriole feeder and looked at it but he didn't know what to do with it. He must have moved on because I only saw him for a day. Then I decided to take a black sharpie marker and color some very small round 'faux' or fake feeding holes over the slits in the rubber orange slices so that if I got another oriole he might know what to do with the feeder and stick his beak into the slit opening thinking it was a round opening like the hummingbird feeders have. The trick did eventually work.........with a hummingbird. She came and had a good look at it and was fooled, she drank from the oriole feeder and I have photos to prove it (see the image gallery for this product). So....I'm still waiting on an oriole to feed from this feeder. Sheesh! what a pain!

Unfortunately this Oriole feeder did not work - the Orioles were attracted to it but weren't able to eat from it. I have another birder friend who got the same negative result. I recommend the Perky Pet 449-2 which the Orioles love and its easy to refill.

This is not hard plastic like most. It is softer and won't break so easily. Great product and it has plenty of room to add grape jelly which the Orioles love. I highly recommmend this product.

Unfortunately this product does not work in a windy area. The feeder blows easily and the sticky food ends up on the ground. I have had more success with the bottle type feeders for orioles.

This is a bad idea all together. It's impossible to fill, the little wedges for orange slices don't work right, if it rains it dilutes the solution and you have to start over, it doesn't hang quite straight, you can't clean it without taking it all apart... And last of all I have yet to see an oriole go anywhere near it, they are still using our hummingbird feeders instead.
